Got dozens or hundreds of locations to add? Don't enter them one by one. Here's how to import all your store locations at once using a CSV file in StoreTrack.

Why Use Bulk CSV Import?

If your business has more than a handful of locations, adding them manually one by one is painfully slow. A CSV bulk import lets you prepare all your location data in a spreadsheet and upload everything in one go — saving hours of work and reducing the chance of data entry errors.

StoreTrack's CSV import is designed to be simple. You don't need to be a spreadsheet expert to use it.

Import a CSV file into StoreTrack

What is a CSV File?

CSV stands for Comma-Separated Values. It's a simple file format that stores data in rows and columns — just like a spreadsheet. You can create and edit CSV files in Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Apple Numbers, or any other spreadsheet application.

Each row in your CSV represents one location. Each column represents a piece of information about that location, like the name, address, phone number, or opening hours.

What Data Can You Import?

StoreTrack's CSV import supports the following fields:

  • Location name — the name of the store or branch
  • Address — street address, city, state/region, zip/postcode, country
  • Phone number
  • Email address
  • Website URL
  • Opening hours — per day of the week
  • Custom filters — any tags or categories you've created (e.g. "Drive-through", "Open 24h")
  • Latitude and longitude — optional, for precise map placement

Step-by-Step: How to Import Locations via CSV

Step 1: Prepare Your Spreadsheet

Open a new spreadsheet in Google Sheets or Excel. Create one column for each data field you want to import. At minimum you'll need:

  • Name
  • Address (or separate columns for street, city, zip, country)

Fill in one row per location. Make sure there are no blank rows in the middle of your data, and that column headers are in the first row.

Step 2: Download StoreTrack's CSV Template

To make sure your file is formatted correctly, download the CSV template from your StoreTrack dashboard. Go to Locations → Import and click Download Template. This gives you a ready-made spreadsheet with all the correct column headers already in place — just fill in your data.

Step 3: Fill In Your Location Data

Copy your location data into the template. A few tips to keep things clean:

  • Use consistent formatting for addresses (e.g. always include country)
  • Use the same date format for opening hours throughout
  • Remove any special characters from location names that might cause import errors
  • If you have coordinates, add them in the Latitude and Longitude columns for more accurate map placement

Step 4: Save as CSV

Once your data is ready, save the file as a CSV:

  • In Google Sheets: File → Download → Comma Separated Values (.csv)
  • In Excel: File → Save As → choose CSV (Comma delimited) from the format dropdown

Step 5: Upload to StoreTrack

  1. In your StoreTrack dashboard, go to Locations → Import
  2. Click Upload CSV and select your file
  3. StoreTrack will preview your data and flag any errors before importing
  4. Review the preview, fix any issues if needed, and click Import

Your locations will be imported and appear on your store locator map immediately.

Step 6: Review and Enrich Your Locations

After importing, take a few minutes to review your locations. You can add photos, additional details, or custom filters to individual locations from the dashboard. These extras make your store locator much more useful for end visitors.

Tips for a Smooth CSV Import

  • Start with a small test batch — if you have hundreds of locations, try importing 5-10 first to make sure your formatting is correct before doing the full upload.
  • Use the template — it's much easier than formatting a CSV from scratch and avoids the most common import errors.
  • Include coordinates for accuracy — if your locations have unusual addresses or are in areas where geocoding might be imprecise, adding latitude and longitude ensures they're pinned exactly right on the map.
  • Keep a master spreadsheet — maintain a Google Sheet or Excel file with all your locations as a single source of truth. When you need to update many locations at once, you can re-export and re-import the updated CSV.
